Board of Commissioners approve Amendment 1 to 2012/2013 budget after announcement of Huey P. Long Hospital closure

Moving forward at the August 23, 2012 Board meeting, the Board of Commissioners approved Amendment 1 to the fiscal year Budget of 2012/2013.  The Budget Amendment was proposed to the Board, by the Executive Director, after announcement by the State of Louisiana that the England Airpark Campus of Huey P. Long Hospital will be closing.  The closing of the facility is a significant impact to the budget of the Authority and must be handled in a prudent manner.  While very detailed, the budget amendment makes reductions in three major areas:  elimination of three unfilled positions (11% reduction in total personnel slots), elimination of $716,261 in proposed capital projects and a 5% reduction in operating expenditures.  While painful, the England Authority will move forward to adapt and overcome this latest challenge. This is a good time to remind the reader that the England Authority receives no local or state tax dollars for operating expenses.  All funds generated for operating expenses at England Airpark are generated by the business activities at the Airpark.
